What these numbers mean

  • Answer rate - connects ÷ dials. Of everyone you called, how many picked up. This measures your list quality and your timing, not your pitch - nobody hears the pitch before answering.
  • Interest rate - interested ÷ connects. Of the people who answered, how many wanted to keep talking. This is your pitch and opener metric.
  • Interested per 100 dials - the two combined: how much pipeline a hundred dials buys you. Use it to work backwards from your goals to a daily dial target.

How to move each number

The two rates fail for different reasons, which is why tracking them separately matters.

  • Low answer rate: try different calling hours, clean disconnected numbers out of your list, and check whether your outbound number is being flagged as spam by carriers.
  • Low interest rate with a healthy answer rate: rework your first fifteen seconds. Lead with the specific reason you are calling this person rather than a generic introduction.
  • Both low: your list does not match your offer. Better targeting beats more dialing.
